What is Tango?
Argentine Tango is an improvisational social dance which originated in Argentina and Uruguay in the late 1800's. Today it is danced all over the world, by people of all ages and ethnicities.
Why dance tango?
Tango is versatile, with the power to express a wide range of emotions - from joy to sorrow, nostalgia to fulfillment, sweetness to sarcasm - depending on the music and the mood of the dancers. Elegant, sensuous, and highly addictive, tango encourages a relaxed concentration, a deep awareness of the music, a playful collaboration between partners, and a cooperative attention amongst everyone sharing the dance space.
A skill for a lifetime.
Based on natural walking, the fundamental movements of tango are simple to learn. Beginning students will be ready to try what they've learned on the social dance floor after three lessons. On the other hand, advanced dancers will remain challenged for as long as they choose to dance. The complexity of the music and improvisational nature of the dance allow for opportunities for lifelong learning and growth.
